Principal Design Services

CMA Architects

CMA provides standalone Principal Designer services to both Clients and Design Teams, ensuring full compliance with the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM). Under these regulations, Clients are legally required to appoint a Principal Designer who will take control of health and safety during the pre-construction phase of a project. CMA has developed extensive expertise over more than a decade, delivering successful outcomes across a wide range of projects—from small-scale housing developments to large, complex industrial sites. Our Principal Designers bring not only the necessary skills and knowledge but also the professional behaviours essential for establishing safe, secure, and well-managed project environments.

Our team are recognised CDM subject matter experts in construction health and safety. We work collaboratively with all CDM duty holders to help plan, manage, and integrate health and safety into the design and construction process. This proactive approach encourages a transparent and effective health and safety culture throughout the lifecycle of the project. CMA’s Principal Designer service is tailored to meet the specific needs of each project and duty holder, ensuring that all parties have confidence their responsibilities are being appropriately discharged.

We offer advisory services to all CDM duty holders, including Clients, Principal Designers, Designers, Principal Contractors, and Contractors. As part of our comprehensive process, we develop a clear plan to achieve design work compliance, monitor and control any changes to that plan, coordinate the work of multiple designers, and maintain consistent communication with both the Principal Contractor and the Client. Our goal is to ensure that health and safety considerations are not only met but are embedded into the fabric of the project from the outset, supporting successful delivery and long-term operational integrity.
